LINGLE – This week, Cory Gilcriest, principal of Lingle-Fort Laramie Schools spoke to the Telegram. He shared what was new and interesting in their part of the county.

The first thing Gilcriest wanted to share was how they are working on building some new initiatives within the school. They are working on implementing Public Learning Communities (PLC) not only on a district level but also within their building.

They’ve also built secondary-level intervention time into their schedule in their flex time. They did this to help build on their PLCs and help students adjust to the new program.

Gilcriest stated he believes they have good news coming in on last year’s WYTOPPS, however, they cannot share anything else as it is still confidential.

He said they only have one new staff member this school year, a special educator for their middle school. He shared she is doing a great job for their school.

Lingle-Fort Laramie schools will start Leader in Me training soon. He shared how this was a program to assist in student leadership skills.

“It’s a student leadership program that allows students to become self-actualized and realize their potential,” Gilcriest shared.

He shared how they are still working over rough spots with the new programs and still working on building them to a very successful level, but he said he is already seeing it becoming effective with students.

He shared how they are seeing results when it comes to missing assignments. They have more assignments being turned in this year. He hopes by the end of the year, they will see more results hopefully in student achievement, especially in standardized testing.

Gilcriest shared how they have made a lot of progress in past years, and he believes adding the PLC process will bring academic achievement even higher.

He said every staff member has been working so hard to heighten achievement this year. They are doing all the right things, and they are very excited to see the benefits of such hard work. He said there has been a lot asked of them this year and they have responded positively. He is very proud of the work they’re putting in and he said it has been a busy but good year.

Another thing he wanted to add is how fantastically their football team is doing this year. Lingle-Fort Laramie’s football team is ranked first in the state. He is very excited about it, and said they are looking good this year.

His final note was how things are going really well for them this year and they have a lot of really good things going for them. He said there is probably even more exciting things going on this year, but this covers the majority of them, especially the new things. They are very busy this year.
