GILLETTE – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lancers boarded the bus to play Gillette College on Tuesday, January 14, with the Lancers coming up short, 85-49.
Gillette College opened the game with a 14-5 run in the first 10 minutes of regulation and went on to establish an 18-point lead at halftime, 38-20.
Six Lancers contributed to scoring for EWC in the first half, however, led by freshman Eli Igiranez with an outside shot and a pair of free throws.
Fellow freshmen LaThario Miller and Jaironn Speights tossed in two close-range shots apiece. Jouk Mayan, also a freshman, netted a 3-pointer while freshman Alain Nziza scored from inside the perimeter.
EWC fought to close the gap with 18 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, including buckets by Miller, Speights, sophomore Khayree Rashed and freshman Russell Moorer.
Gillette College steadily widened its lead in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
EWC finished the game with a point spread among eight players. Speights, Igiranez and Miller each tallied 10 points against Gillette College. Nziza contributed seven points, Rashed four, Mayan and Moorer three apiece and freshman Vukasin Spasojevic two.
EWC traveled to play LCCC on Thursday. Results were not available at press time.
