LA JUNTA, COLORADO – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) men’s golf team finished on top of the leaderboard with a -4 at the Otero Community College Tournament in La Junta, Colorado from September 26-27. The women’s team finished second.
Lancer Taiki Sugawara topped the leaderboard with a -5 to win the tournament. Fellow Lancer Freddie Dancox finished in a tie for second with a -1.
Joshua Chapman finished in tie for fourth place with a +1, while teammate Tytan Birchall finished in sixth with a +2. Braylon Bingham finished in a tie for seventh place with a +3, while Coltin Powell finished 11th with a +6 and John Lane tied for 17th place.
“Taiki had another great tournament along with a host of other guys that placed in the top 10,” coach Zach Smith said. “Both teams had another good week. The guys played well both days to come away with a big win. The girls were down eight strokes going into day two and were able to cut it to four at the end of the tournament.”
The Lady Lancers finished in second place, four strokes behind Otero College. Elliann Irick finished in fourth place with a +25. Jessica Applegarth and Georgie Lou Paterakis finished in a tie for fifth place, while teammates Shayla Clayton and Bailey Watson tied for seventh.
“I’m pleased with both teams’ progress,” Smith said. “Hopefully we can get a men’s and women’s team win in Lamar.”
