GILLETTE – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lady Lancers posted their fourth consecutive conference win with a resounding 73-53 victory against Gillette College on the road Saturday.

“We were able to overcome a slow shooting night from 3 and pulled out a good win on the road,” coach Tim Larsen said. “It was a good team defensive effort as we were able to be effective not only in our man to man but also our zone defense. We did a great job getting the ball inside and using our size to our advantage.”

A neck-and-neck first quarter found EWC ahead by a single point, 13-12.

Taking control of the scoreboard in the second quarter, the Lady Lancers topped Gillette in scoring, 21-14.

Halftime found EWC up, 34-26.

The Lady Lancers netted 17 points in the third quarter while holding Gillette to 11. Pulling out all the stops in the final quarter, EWC outmaneuvered Gillette, 22-16.

Hailey Long led the Lady Lancers in scoring against Gillette with 22 points. Luna Moreno also posted double-digit scoring with 17 points.

EWC dominated the boards, out-rebounding Gillette, 49-41. Ali Tripp down nine rebounds with Tawny Rodriguez posting seven and fie apiece by Sofia Mokofisi, Tamar Kopilevich and Emma Jimenez. 

Moreno snatched six steals and Long delivered three assists.
