ROCK SPRINGS – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lady Lancers remain at the top of their game following two more conference victories against Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) and Casper College on the road from October 11-12.
EWC’s wins propelled the Lady Lancers to the top of the NJCAA Region IX, Division I North standings with an undefeated 6-0 record.
Friday’s match between EWC and WWCC turned into a neck-and-neck, five-set battle with the Lady Lancers once again rallying from an early setback to post a 3-2 victory. On Saturday, the Lady Lancers dispatched Casper College in four sets, 3-1.
WWCC
WWCC threw the first punch in Friday’s match to prevail in the opening set, 25-22.
The Lady Lancers battled back to win the second and third sets, 25-20 and 25-23, respectively.
The back-and-forth continued in the fourth set with WWCC recording the win by only two points, 25-23.
Everything came down to the fifth set with the Lady Lancers scoring four points to defeat WWCC, 3-2 and win the match.
Four Lady Lancers posted double-digit kills against WWCC, led by sophomore Belle Dolan with 21. Freshmen Annika Cantrell and Amarie Huntsman both tallied 16 kills with fellow freshman Una Stepic contributing 12.
Sophomores Boden Liljedahl and Baylor Rodgers and Stepic each aced a serve. Sophomore setter Emma Blackstar delivered 38 assists while Liljedahl played libero and totaled 33 digs.
Sophomore Siala Unufe defended the net with five blocks while Cantrell posted four blocks and freshman Mina Milivojevic three.
Casper College
The match between EWC and Casper College followed a similar pattern to other matches this season with the Lady Lancers turning the tide after a 25-19 loss in the first set to win the second set, 25-16.
Leaving it all on the court in the third and fourth sets, EWC won, 25-21 and 25-15, respectively.
Three Lady Lancers tallied double-digit kills against Casper College. Dolan set the pace for EWC with 14 kills while Huntsman contributed 11 and Stepic 10.
Blackstar served as setter and recorded 26 assists. Liljedahl covered the floor as libero with 18 digs.
On the service line, Unufe aced five serves while Rodgers served up four aces, freshman Vladana Ristic three and Blackstar two.
Cantrell led EWC defensively with five blocks. Minivojevic and Unufe both totaled three blocks.
