Lady Lancers defeat LCCC

TORRINGTON  The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lady Lancers controlled the scoreboard throughout four quarters against Laramie County Community College (LCCC) to capture their third conference win by an 84-71 margin at home on Saturday, February 15.

EWC’s victory improved the Lady Lancers’ overall record to 12-14 and provided momentum for the team as the postseason approached in several weeks.

EWC battled LCCC through a physical first quarter to pull ahead by one possession, 21-19, as the second quarter began.

The Lady Lancers maintained the pressure into the second quarter that saw EWC top LCCC in scoring, 24-20, to secure a six-point halftime lead, 45-39.

EWC continued to outscore LCCC in both the third quarter (20-16) and fourth quarter (19-16) by one or two decisive possessions.

Nine Lady Lancers contributed to the final points spread against LCCC with four reaching the double digits. Freshman Ariadna Martinez led with 15 points while sophomore Nikolina Vukcevic tallied 12, freshman Yaiza Paredes 11 and sophomore Aliya Tripp 10.

Sophomore Leamsi Acuna contributed eight points, sophomore Josephine Vourliotis seven, sophomore Boden Liljedahl three and sophomore Tawny Rodriguez two.

On the boards, Acuna led with seven rebounds while Martinez, Tripp and Paredes each pulled down five.

Acuna and Liljedahl both delivered seven assists while Paredes snapped up four steals and tallied one block.
