TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lady Lancers dominated the annual Wyo-Braska Tournament it hosted from September 19-21, finishing a successful weekend with an undefeated 3-0 record.
The Lady Lancers swept Colorado Northwestern Community College in the opening match on Thursday. EWC routed Colorad Northwestern in each of the tree sets, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-21.
Freshman Amarie Huntsman led the Lady Lancers on offense with 10 kills. Fellow freshman Savannah Kirkbride tallied seven kills, with six apiece by freshmen Annika Cantrell and Una Stepic. Sophomore Siala Unufe contributed five kills.
Stepic aced six serves while sophomore Neeley Rutledge posted 12 digs. Sophomore Baylor Rodgers delivered seven assists.
On defense, Unufe and freshman Mina Milivojevic each tallied four blocks.
On Friday morning, EWC battled Miles Community College from Montana in four neck-and-neck sets with the Lady Lancers ultimately scoring a 3-1 victory.
EWC won the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-11. Miles College attempted to turn the tables with a win in the third set, 25-22.
The fourth set came down to the wire with the match tying at 26 points. EWC rallied and scored two points to win the set, 28-26 and the match.
Three Lady Lancers posted double-digit kills against Miles College, with 16 from Huntsman, 14 by Stepic and 11 from sophomore Julia Dolan.
Freshman Vladana Ristic served up three aces. Sophomore Boden Liljedahl covered the floor for the Lady Lancers with 29 digs.
Sophomore setter Emma Blackstar contributed 31 assists while both Cantrell and Unufe totaled five blocks.
The final match of the tournament between EWC and Trinidad State College (Colorado) was also neck-and-neck. The Lady Lancers prevailed in a five-set battle to tally a 3-2 win.
EWC defeated Trinidad State in the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-10. Trinidad rallied to win the third set, 25-21, before going on to win the fourth set, 25-14.
The Lady Lancers responded in the winner-takes-all fifth set to beat Trinidad, 15-10 and claim the overall victory.
A trio of Lady Lancers recorded double-digit kills against Trinidad State, led by Dolan with 17. Huntsman contributed 13 kills with Stepic tallying 12.
Blackstar totaled 37 assists and Liljedahl posted 23 digs. Rutledge aced three serves while Unufe reached up for four blocks.
