YODER – Fans packed the Dogger Dome on Saturday, February 15 to watch the Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Lady Doggers defeat Kimball, Nebraska and punch in their 17th victory for the 2024-2025 season.
On Friday, LFL crushed Rock River, 57-4, at an away conference game to maintain its undefeated record in 1A.
The Lady Doggers remain at the top of their game at the No. 1 spot in the 1A Southeast with a 17-3 overall record and 9-0 conference record.
LFL honored its seniors – Addison Scott, Brenly Shipp, Alisha McGraw and Haven Torres – at the Lady Doggers’ final home game on Saturday.
“We have enjoyed their heart and love for the game and will miss these seniors next year,” coach Susan Bartel said.
Bartel praised the Lady Doggers for posting another undefeated weekend.
“We played well up in Rock River with the whole team getting lots of play time,” Bartel added. “On Saturday at home, Kimball was a competitive game. We were able to focus on tough defense and pull ahead to secure the win.”
Rock River
An explosive first quarter that saw the Lady Doggers net 24 points while an ironclad LFL defense shut out Rock River set the tempo for the remainder of the game.
The Lady Doggers topped Rock River in scoring, 16-2, in the second half to secure an overwhelming 40-2 halftime lead.
LFL maintained the defensive pressure into the third quarter, once again preventing Rock River from scoring while the Lady Dogger tallied 13 points.
LFL’s reserve players entered the game in the fourth quarter to finish off the job.
Eleven Lady Doggers contributed to the final points spread against Rock River, led by junior Skyla Wunder with 12. Junior Jordynn Speckner collected eight points, sophomore Charlotte Speckner seven with six apiece by Shipp and freshman Shaylyn Wunder.
Junior Avary Rising and freshman Madison Bugher each recorded five points with three by McGraw and two from sophomore Madison Hatch and freshman Hayden Willey. Freshman Peyton Lincoln rounded the tally out with a free throw.
Charlotte Speckner led on the boards with nine rebounds while Rising pulled down five. Skyla Wunder delivered six assists and snatched five steals. McGraw reached up for one block.
Kimball
The Lady Doggers dominated the court in the first quarter against Kimball, outscoring the Longhorns nearly six-fold, 17-3.
Skyla Wunder paced LFL offensively in the first eight minutes of regulation with 11 points while Rising, Jordynn Speckner and Charlotte Speckner each tossed in a bucket.
On defense, Jordynn Speckner, Shipp and Scott forced turnovers with steals.
The second quarter proved closer with LFL netting nine points and Kimball eight. Four Lady Doggers – Shipp, Skyla Wunder, Charlotte Speckner and Jordynn Speckner – lined up for close-range shots while Shaylyn Wunder sank a free throw.
On defense, Skyla Wunder and Charlotte Speckner maintained the pressure with steals in the second.
Kimball attempted to turn the tide in a second half that saw the Longhorns outmaneuver LFL, 20-17, but Kimball’s effort came up short in matching the Lady Doggers on the final scoreboard.
Shaylyn Wunder led the LFL offense in the third with five points while Jordynn Speckner netted four points in the final quarter.
Skyla Wunder led the Lady Dogger offense in scoring against Kimball with 17 points. Jordynn Speckner and Shaylyn Wunder each contributed eight points, Shipp four, Rising two and Scott a free throw.
Shipp and Rising both pulled down six rebounds. Jordynn Speckner passed the ball for two assists and picked up five steals while Lincoln made one block.
