LINGLE  The Lingle-Fort Laramie (LFL) Lady Doggers remain undefeated in 1A basketball with a critical 58-40 victory against Niobrara County High School in the Dogger Dome on Friday, February 7.

On Saturday, the Lady Doggers punched in their 13th season win with a 54-34 road victory against Crawford, Nebraska.

The undefeated weekend improved LFL’s overall record to 13-0 while the Lady Doggers maintained their status as the No. 1 team in the 1A Southeast Conference with an 8-0 record.

“This was a great weekend to be a Lady Dogger,” coach Susan Bartel said. “We played a fun and competitive game against our neighbors from up in Lusk. The girls played really well together – clicking on offense with some tenacious defense. Same thing on Saturday. The girls pulled ahead by half and got into our game. I’m super proud of the girls.”

Niobrara County

A packed gym watched as LFL cruised past the Lady Tigers in the first quarter, 20-8.

Junior Skyla Wunder paced the LFL offense in the opening eight minutes of regulation with eight points while fellow junior Jordynn Speckner tallied six. Avary Rising, also a junior, and sophomores Afton Schilreff and Madison Hatch each netted close-range shots.

On defense, Skyla Wunder and Rising both snapped up steals.

LFL widened its lead in the second quarter, topping Niobrara County in scoring, 17-8. Wunder tossed in a trey and scored on a fastbreak while Jordynn Speckner scored two close-range shots.

Sophomore Charlotte Speckner converted an and-1, freshman Shaylyn Wunder scored a buzzer-beating 3-pointer and the halftime score favored LFL, 37-16.

Skyla Wunder again led the LFL offense with nine points while Schilreff, Jordynn Speckner and Charlotte Speckner each drained close-range shots. Freshman Madison Bugher entered the game and scored a free throw.

Defensively, Jordynn Speckner, Skyla Wunder and Shaylyn Wunder maintained the pressure with steals in the third.

LFL’s reserve players topped off scoring in the fourth quarter with points by Shaylyn Wunder and senior Addison Scott. Senior Brenly Shipp picked up two steals on defense.

Skyla Wunder set the momentum for the LFL offense against Niobrara County with 20 points. Jordynn Speckner contributed 12 points, Schilreff seven and five from both Charlotte Speckner and Shaylyn Wunder.
