TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School Lady Blazers volleyball team improved its 2024 season record to 7-2 following a successful weekend against 3A rivals Burns, Rawlins and Glenrock.
The Lady Blazers kicked off their three-game winning streak with a 3-0 victory against Burns on the road on Thursday, September 5.
Torrington hosted Rawlins for the team’s home-opener on Friday and the Lady Blazers successfully defended the Willi Gym with a 3-1 win.
On Saturday, the Lady Blazers swept Glenrock at an away game, 3-0.
Burns
Torrington won the first set against Burns, 25-20. Maintaining the momentum into the second set, the Lady Blazers trounced the Lady Broncs, 25-10. Burns came up short in the third set, 25-13.
Senior Olive Osmera led the Lady Blazers offensively against Burns with 13 kills. Junior Brooklyn Asmus tallied six kills and sophomore Zoe Wilson contributed five.
Osmera served up seven aces while senior Jaycee Hurley and junior Natalie Long both aced three serves.
On defense, Asmus and Wilson tallied two blocks apiece.
The Lady Blazers covered the floor well against Burns with Long collecting 12 digs, Hurley 10 and Osmera eight.
As setter, Long delivered 18 assists.
Rawlins
The first set between Torrington and Rawlins tied at 23 before the Lady Blazers scored two points to win, 25-23.
Torrington dominated the second set, defeating Rawlins, 25-16.
The Lady Outlaws rallied in the third set to win, 25-23.
Leaving it all on the court in the fourth set, the Lady Blazers cruised past Rawlins, 25-9.
Wilson led Torrington in kills with 10. Osmera totaled nine kills, Asmus eight and senior Teryn Stokes seven.
On the service line, Osmera posted four aces with Hurley and Stokes each acing two serves.
Defensively, Asmus, Wilson, junior Trishell Pontarolo and Stokes tallied one block apiece.
Asmus and Hurley covered the floor with 28 and 27 digs, respectively. Long contributed 30 assists against Rawlins.
Glenrock
Torrington soundly won the first set against Glenrock, 25-14.
The Lady Herders found their footing in a neck-and-neck second set that tied at 24. Torrington responded by scoring two decisive points to win, 26-24.
The third set came down to the wire with the Lady Blazers triumphing, 25-23.
Osmera set the offensive momentum for Torrington against Glenrock with eight kills. Pontarolo tallied seven kills, Wilson six and Stokes five.
Hurley and Osmera both aced two serves while Asmus, Long, Wilson and Pontarolo each posted two blocks.
As libero, Hurley recorded 16 digs. Long delivered 20 assists.
