GERING – The Torrington High School Lady Blazers soccer team battled cold temperatures, rain and strong winds as they traveled to play Gering on Tuesday, April 1.
Gering pulled ahead, 4-0, in the first half. A 6-0 run by the Lady Bulldogs in the second half clinched the win for Gering, 10-0.
Regardless of the final tally, the Lady Blazers made solid plays on both defense and offense.
In the first half, junior goalie Kristin Prado tallied 14 saves. Powerful kicks by sophomore Kynzie Thomas, junior Hallie Fuller and junior Salma Beltran cleared the backfield on several occasions.
Offensively, freshman Peyton Lincoln, sophomore Inez Chavez and senior Rachel Gomes each made a shot on goal in the first half.
Prado collected nine additional saves in the first 28 minutes of the second half. Senior Marisol Munoz opened the second with a shot on goal. Sophomore Madison Hatch also made a shot on goal late in the second half.
“This game was a reminder that we have much more to work on and improve on,” coach Tyler Cram said.
Torrington journeyed to the western side of the state to play conference rival Worland on Friday with game time scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Lady Blazers play their home opener against Rawlins on Friday, April 11 at 2 p.m.
