Lady Blazers fall to Douglas

Posted

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School Lady Blazers soccer team hosted the Douglas Lady Bearcats for their second home game of the 2025 season.

The game remained close through most of the first half. Douglas scored in the opening minute of regulation before the Torrington defense closed ranks.

Junior goalie Avary Rising scooped up four saves while senior Emilia Bookout cleared the backfield with a powerful kick.

Douglas broke through the Lady Blazers’ defense to score midway into the first half.

The Torrington offense responded with strikes into the Lady Bearcats’ territory, including shots on goal by seniors Marisol Munoz and Kayden Tucker.

Taking possession, Munoz kicked the ball into Douglas’ goal to score for Torrington, assisted by junior Kennedi Blevins.

Rising tallied four additional saves while defensive hustle by Bookout, sophomore Kynzi Thomas, junior Natalie Lira and junior Natalie Long maintained the pressure on Douglas.

The Lady Bearcats went on a four-point run late in the first half to take the lead, 6-1, at halftime.

Douglas sealed its win by outscoring Torrington, 8-0, in the second half. Despite the second-half tally, the Lady Blazers made several solid plays. Senior Rachel Gomes stepped in as goalie and made a big save on an attempted penalty kick by Douglas. Clearance kicks by Thomas, Long, Lira, Bookout and juniors Alicia Chavez, Salma Beltran and Kirstin Prado kept Douglas out of Torrington’s goal area for a long stretch in the middle of the second half.

“Douglas was a challenging opponent who gave us a different look from what we have seen previously with other teams,” coach Tyler Cram said. “The game provided us with new areas to work on in preparation for the next time we see them.”

The Lady Blazers travel to play Rawlins on Friday, May 2, at 2 p.m. followed by a home game against Worland on Saturday at 2 p.m.
