CHEYENNE – The 2024-2025 winter season began for the Torrington High School Lady Blazers wrestling team with a 13th place finish at the Charlie Lake invitational hosted by Cheyenne East on December 13.
The all-girls, bracket style tournament featured 16 teams from Wyoming and Nebraska. Torrington fielded four athletes and collected 49 team points, beating Douglas, Kimball, Nebraska and Cheyenne South.
Freshman Catherine Hendricks snagged the championship at 125 pounds. Hendricks opened the tournament by pinning Laramie Kimberlie Ledford at 1:49 in the first round.
Progressing to the quarterfinals, Hendricks pinned Rene Brumbianin of Sidney, Nebraska, at 31 seconds.
In the semifinals, Hendricks felled Douglas’ Malaya Goss at 31 seconds.
The title match pitted Hendricks against Olivianna McMahn of Rawlins. Hendricks battled McMahn through 1:29 in the first period before Hendricks won by fall.
Junior Aubree Fahrmeyer clinched fourth place in the 140-pound weight division. After falling in the first round, Fahrmeyer battled back to pin two opponents in the consolation matches and win the third by injury forfeit.
Fahrmeyer won the consolation semifinals by pinning Wheatland’s Jenna Karr at 1:42.
Freshman Makayla Burkart and sophomore Jenna Woodard also represented the Lady Blazers at the tournament. Burkart scored three team points for Torrington.
