TORRINGTON – Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Jose Reyes Garcia Sr., 76, will be held 1p.m. January 6, 2025, at the Saint Rose Catholic Church with Father Ray Moss officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery.
A rosary will be recited 12:30 p.m. prior to the mass. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Jose passed away peacefully December 25, 2024, at his home in Torrington. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com
Jose was born January 6, 1948, in Los Angeles, Mexico to Isidro and Florencia (Munoz) Garcia. Jose moved around his whole life eventually settling in Torrington, Wyoming. Jose and his wife Adela raised their family in Torrington and was a very devoted father to his children. After being together for many years Jose and Adela got married in 2015. He joined the United States Army in 1968 and was sent to the Vietnam War to serve his country. Jose was honorably discharged in 1970. While in the Army, Jose earned several medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Four Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and the Good Conduct Medal.
He worked numerous jobs throughout his life, of all the jobs he did he loved working for the State of Wyoming Capitol building as a janitor which is where he earned his much-deserved retirement from. Jose enjoyed working in his yard, spending time with his family and those he considered family and drinking a beer with his dog Coco.
Jose is survived by his three brothers: Junior Garcia, Mario (Linda) Garcia and Richard (Delores) Garcia. His children; Mary Garcia, Joe (Desi) Garcia Jr, Christina Garcia, Diana Garcia (Mark Hitt), Elaine Garcia, Nancy (Nate) Woodruff and Terry (Andrea) Garcia. Twenty-one grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as many numerous extended family members. He is preceded in death by his wife Adela, brothers Leonard and Domingo Garcia, grandson Payne Hitt and his parents Isidro and Florencia Garcia.
