LINGLE – Funeral services for Isabell Brown Hill, 95, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021, at the Lingle Community Presbyterian Church with Pastors Curtis Hill and Nate Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Isabell passed away July 12, 2021, at her home west of Lingle. Memorials may be given to either the Lingle Community Presbyterian Church or the Christ Reformed Presbyterian Church in Torrington. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday July 23, 2021, from 3-5 p.m. Viewing will be available prior to the service at the church. Isabell was born Aug. 18, 1925, in her grandparents, William and Eliza (Chandler) Snider’s home near Torrington to Earl Edward and Britta D. (Snider) Brown. She moved with her family to Lyman, Nebraska where she began kindergarten. Later they moved to Morrill, Nebraska where her father was working on construction.
When they moved back to Torrington, Isabell finished school there. In 1943 she worked at the bus depot and lived with Merwin and Elvira Quimby who had three children. When they were not in school, she looked after them. After she finished school, Isabell moved to Newark, New Jersey where her brother Edward and his wife Joan lived. She worked in the umbrella factory and also later, the New York Life Agency as a file clerk and receptionist. Isabell attended the Arthur Murray Dance School and became a professional dance instructor. When she was in New Jersey, she rode the ferry to Radio City to dine and watch shows, visited the Statue of Liberty and went to Central Park in New York. She later toured Abe Lincoln’s log cabin at the State Historic site south of Charleston, Illinois.
In 1949, Isabell moved back to Torrington to be closer to her family. She had plans to move to Denver, Colorado to teach dance lessons at an Arthur Murray Studio but George Friedrick Hill swept her off her feet and they were married at the Congregational Church in Torrington on Dec. 3, 1949. George and Isabell’s partnership lasted 46 years. To this union, two girls were born, Nancy Jean and Connie Mae. In 1953, they purchased a place west of Lingle called Wyncote Acres where they farmed and raised Hereford, Angus and Charolais cattle. Isabell had lived there sixty-eight years. She was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and taught the Youth Mission prayer and study group. She was a member of the Lingle Community Presbyterian Church for sixty-two years. She was the funeral dinner coordinator for many years, a Deacon and involved with the Caring and Sharing program. She was a member of the Presbyterian Ladies Association, Lifetime member of the Wyoming Pioneer Association, Fort Laramie Historical Association, Western History Center and Elizabeth Ramsey Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for forty years. Isabell was a 4-H leader, clerked at the Goshen County Fairs for the horse judging and timed events at the gymkhanas.
Isabell’s hobbies included attending the Christian Women’s Club in Torrington, reading the Bible, crossword puzzles, genealogy and playing Christian music on the piano, keyboard and autoharp. She enjoyed dancing, listening to music, baking, gardening, watching wildlife and birds, photography, doing crafts and playing checkers. She is certainly dancing in the streets of Heaven now. Her favorite colors were pink and light blue. She liked touring art and history museums. She was a faithful and devoted wife and mother. She was a farmer’s wife who helped with the harvest and daily chores. She was loved and admired by her family for her gentle spirit and generosity. Isabell will be remembered for her commitment to the Lord. She began and ended her day by praying and reading the Bible. She maintained a deep abiding faith in God and frequently sought the Bible for direction in her life. Isabell accepted Christ in 1937 while staying with her grandmother, Eliza Snider at the Berwyn Church of God at Berwyn, Nebraska. She was twelve years old.
Isabell is survived by her daughters, Nancy (David) Zimmerer of Lingle and Connie (Joe) Jones of Wheatland, Wyoming; grandchildren, Diane (Joe) Nelson of Wheatland and Sean Jones of Laramie, Wyoming; great grandchildren Dylan and Haylie Nelson of Wheatland; sisters Dorothy Eisenach of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Sharon (John) Rife of Payton, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband George Hill in 1995; her parents; her brothers Edward, Leroy, Larry and David; and her sisters, Betty Trupp, Donna Cooper, Lois Caldwell and Alice Brown.
