SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Monument Valley Iris Society has scheduled their annual spring iris show for May 27-28, at the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research and Extension Center a mile north Scottsbluff on Hwy. 71.
We are hoping that’s the best bloom week for the iris. Every year is different. The iris flower is extremely sensitive to early spring temperatures. If temperatures are warm in April and May, the iris bloom early. If the temperatures are cool the iris bloom later. Last year was almost normal. This year seems to be a little early. The late April freezing temperatures were not too bad so we seem to be on schedule. Stan Haas, a member the Monument Valley Iris Society said, we selected the late May date, now we hope the iris cooperate.
If you are looking for an outstanding activity to kick off the weekend, this is it. The iris show is an AIS Region 21 sanctioned event and is free of charge and open to the public.
