TORRINGTON ¬– Harvey LeRoy Knaub, beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator, friend, and car collector, passed away at the Torrington Community Hospital peacefully on July 15, 2024, at the age of 78.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, knowledge, and passion that will be cherished by all who know him.
Harvey was a devoted husband to his wife of 55 years, Sharon, and a loving father to his two children, Kimberly, and Troy. As a grandfather to 4 grandchildren (Blake, Logan, Jaxen, and Kalli) and one great-grandchild (Payton), he was known for his wisdom, humor, and unwavering support.
Harvey was born July 6, 1946, in Scottsbluff to Bill and Emma (Rahmig) Knaub. He attended schools in Minatare and Mitchell and later transferred to Scottsbluff as a freshman, graduating High School in 1965.
He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Meter, on August 4, 1968, in Gering. Harvey attended college at WNCC in Scottsbluff where he matriculated with his associate of arts degree. From there he attended Chadron State College to complete his bachelors in business education in 1970. Harvey was an educator at Torrington High School from 1971 to 2008. During this time, he touched the lives of many, his professionalism and commitment to education were exemplary.
Throughout his life, Harvey dedicated himself to the field of education, touching the lives of countless students as a teacher, mentor, and role model. His commitment to fostering learning and growth will be remembered by generations of students whose lives he impacted.
In addition to his passion for education, Harvey had a deep love for cars. His collection of classic cars was a source of pride and joy, reflecting his appreciation for craftsmanship and design. Of the many proud classic car moments, the most memorable was when he found and acquired his dad’s 1967 Chevelle 33 years later.
Harvey also found great joy in spending time gambling and playing pool with his retired teacher friends. Harvey will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, generosity, and passion for life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter Kim; son Troy and his wife Joell; his grandchildren Blake Knaub, Logan (Lexi) Knaub, Jaxen Knaub, Kalli Smith (Kodiak Martinez) and great-grandson, Payton Martinez. Also surviving are his sister, Kathie (Dwayne) Weiss and his brother Duane Knaub.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sister-in-law, Linda Knaub and his in-laws, Violet Schmidt, and Riney Meter.
A celebration of Harvey’s life will be held on July 19, 2024, at First Congregational Church at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Colyer’s Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the First Congregation Church in Harvey’s name or donations for school supplies can be made to the family.
