Harriers post new PRs

CHEYENNE – Goshen County harriers competing on the Torrington High School cross-country team demonstrated marked improvement and new personal records at an invitational hosted by Prairie View Golf Course in Cheyenne on Friday, October 11.

The event featured 11 programs from Wyoming and one squad traveling from South Dakota. While each classification was represented, a majority of the schools were large 4A teams from Casper, Laramie and Cheyenne.

Junior Sullivan Wilson led the Torrington pack in the varsity boys’ 5K course, breaking into the top 10 with a ninth-place finish timed in at 16 minutes, 52.10 seconds.

Junior Kaycee Kosmicki came in 16th place in a field of 61 runners in the girls varsity 5K with a time of 20:39.40.

Senior Callie Taylor took 34th place in girls’ varsity, clocking in at 22:08.40.

In boys’ varsity, freshman Cole Tregemba finished 28th with a time of 18:24.70. Senior Barrett Eichenberger placed 59th at 21:24.20 with sophomore Benaiah Steinbrecher in 61st place at 21:37.40.

“I am extremely proud of how the Blazers competed in Cheyenne,” coach Kelsey Grant said. “The course is quick and almost every member of the team set a season personal record. Despite being one of only three 3A schools facing off against tough 4A competitors, the Blazers showed they can hold their own against top-tier opponents.”

Harriers across Wyoming will spend the week preparing for conference meets on Thursday and Friday. Torrington boards the bus for the 3A East cross-country meet hosted by Rawlins on Thursday, October 17.

“We are excited for regionals in Rawlins this week as our athletes are beginning to peak at the right time,” Grant added. “Our hard work is paying off and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish.”
