Firefighters, law enforcement face off for blood drive

TORRINGTON – United Blood Services asks for your donation of blood in support of your communities First Responders for Guns and Hoses.

The idea of Guns and Hoses came from sister centers in South Dakota and Montana in the past donations. For the past few years Guns and Hoses has been in Rock Springs, Casper and Cheyenne with the assistance of each community. This will be the first Guns and Hoses in Torrington and organizers hope to make it an annual event.

Guns and Hoses is a blood donation that also shows support to the First Responders in the community. The police, firefighters and sheriff’s departments and their colleagues are the ones on the front line who see the need, see the reasons for blood donations. Every single donation of blood can help three people.

Donation are by appointment with 75 spots open for donors. As each donor signs in they will be asked who they support the Guns (law enforcement) or Hoses (firefighters) and will receive a red t-shirt for Hoses or blue t-shirt for Guns after they have made the donation. Then the count will be tallied to see who will receive the trophy for the most donors. 

Guns and Hoses will be held Monday July 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Torrington, 

Lincoln Community Complex-Gym. After the donation, First Responders will be at Jirdon Park for a bring your own dinner meet-and-greet with a watermelon feed.
