Gary John Grussing

FORT LARAMIE – Gary John Grussing, a resident of Fort Laramie, passed away on January 16, 2025, at the age of 86. 

Gary, born in the City of Orange, Orange County, California was a remarkable soul and a devoted man, cherished for his faith in Jesus Christ, his kind and giving heart, and his support of family, friends, and community. His generosity knew no bounds, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. 

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Nancy; son, Jeffrey Scott; daughters Robin Kathleen and Cheryl Lynn; grandchildren Heather Lianne, Alexis Marie, Jeffrey Thomas, Savannah Ilene, Mark David, and Remy Grussing; nine great-grandchildren; and his brother Donald Thomas, of Buford, Georgia.

Throughout his life Gary chose to serve. First in the U.S. Marine Corp, followed by 24 years as a dedicated officer for the California Highway Patrol (CHP). During which time he received numerous commendations for life saving and unwavering service. Upon retirement from the CHP, Gary worked as a consultant in several industries including transportation, welding, ship-fitting, highway and road construction, and levy construction within the Sacramento River System.

Gary’s smile and energy lit up any room he entered. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, riding his motorcycle, traveling and dancing. He lived life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with his family, friends, dog, horse, and cows.
