TORRINGTON – Funeral services for Gary Dean Pittman Sr, 76, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial with military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Gary died June 16, 2023 Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to either Kindness Ranch or the Torrington VFW. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the casket will be closed at the service. Gary was born July 20, 1946 in Brush, Colorado the son of Gell and Thelma (Hanken) Pittman. His family move to Torrington when he was three months old. He grew up and received his education in Torrington. He joined the US Navy in 1965 and served as a submariner until 1970. After his discharge he returned to Nebraska where he met and married Jan Frakes. They were later divorced. He then met and married Veronica Mazur. She passed away in 2021. He worked as a professional drywaller in many places over the years. In 2006 he retired and moved back to Torrington.
Gary is survived by son Gary (Kimberly) Pittman and granddaughters Kaylee and Lexie Pittman of Torrington; son Fred Pittman of Cypress, Texas; daughter Michelle (Greg) Kring and granddaughter Abby Kring and grandsons Zach and Dylan Kring of North Platte, Nebraska; son Richard (Lynn) Delano, granddaughter Alisha and grandson Ricky of Mosinee, Wisconsin; sisters Gail Rector of North Platte and Marilynn Pittman of Omaha, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved as though they were all his kids. He was preceded in death by his parents Gell Pittman and Thelma Mayes; sisters Gloria Pittman and Sharon Williams; brother Skip Pittman; nephews Timmy Pittman, and David Wahl; and his beloved Saint Bernards Benny, Gloria, Thumper, Mattie and Annie.
