JAY, OKLAHOMA – Another good man has fallen. Floyd A. Johnston passed on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the age of 76 in Jay, Oklahoma, after dealing with multiple health issues. Always the fighter, Floyd stayed strong supporting those in his family and friends.
Floyd was born in Torrington on December 7, 1948, to his parents Jack and Neola (Clarke) Johnston.
Floyd attended Torrington Public Schools, class of 1968. He played football and basketball for his high school. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably in Germany and Vietnam. Where he was given several reward medals including the Bronze Star.
After leaving the Army, Floyd went to work for (DEA), then the secret service and then spent 24 years in the Washington, DC Police Department retiring as a Homicide Detective. After retiring from law enforcement, he managed his own construction/home inspection business after moving to Oklahoma. He could build anything, maybe making people giggle by saying how much he hated painting.
He married Virginia Foreman on March 18, 2021. Became the stepdad to Micah, Seth, and Sarah. And grandpa and partners in crime to Blake and Katharine. Floyd is going to be missed dearly by his family and friends. He was loved by all and was our rock, and we know this is not saying goodbye to our Floyd but see you later.
He is survived by his wife Virginia (Bear) Foreman of the home; stepchildren, Micah, Seth, and Sarah; step grandchildren, Blake and Katharine and one on the way; his siblings Tom, Alice, Linda, and Shirley; Floyd was a proud uncle to 23 nieces and nephews; along with numerous great nieces and great nephews; cousins, extended family and friends.
Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Neola Johnston; several of his own aunts and uncles; his wife’s mother; his sisters Margaret, Sarah, and Georgia; and three nieces and two nephews.
Floyd’s wishes were to have a private family Celebration of Life Memorial Service at a later date.
