TORRINGTON – Five athletes on the Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) Lady Lancers volleyball team garnered end-of-season awards following EWC’s Region IX title run in Cheyenne from November 5-9.
Boden Liljedahl
Boden Liljedahl captured the Region IX libero of the year award and was also named the Region IX tournament MVP and Region IX WVP. Liljedahl made the first-team, all-region honor roster as well.
A sophomore from Cheyenne, Liljedahl excelled as libero for the Lady Lancers, tallying 757 digs over the season and averaging 5.91 digs per set. Liljedahl is ranked No. 2 on the national NJCAA Division I leaderboard for season digs.
On November 1 against Western Wyoming Community College, Liljedahl posted her top performance of 37 digs.
Liljedahl also rounded out the regular season with 69 assists and 31 aces.
Siale Unufe
Siale Unufe clinched Region IX first-team, all-region accolades and was named to the Region IX all-tournament team.
Unufe is a sophomore from Spanish Fork, Utah and played middle blocker for EWC. Over the course of the season, Unufe led the team on defense with 146 total blocks, averaging 1.16 blocks per set. The sophomore is No. 6 on the national NJCAA Division rankings for total blocks.
During the August 30 match against North Idaho College, Unufe recorded nine blocks – her best performance of the season.
Unufe also tallied 119 digs on defense for the season and played solid offense with 246 kills (1.95 per set) and 57 aces.
Una Stepic
Una Stepic earned Region IX second-team, all-region recognition and made the all-tournament team roster.
The freshman outside hitter hails from Krusevac, Serbia and netted 372 kills throughout the season at an average of 2.88 kills per set. Stepic recorded a hitting percentage of .160 and finished the regular season ranked No. 25 in the NJCAA Division I for kills.
Stepic’s highlight performance for the season was against Western Wyoming Community College on November 1 when she powered over 20 kills.
Stepic rounded out the scorebook with 37 season aces, 295 digs and 42 blocks.
Belle Dolan
Belle Dolan returned from the Region IX tournament with first-team, all-region honors.
Dolan is a sophomore right side hitter from Castle Rock, Colorado.
Offensively, Dolan posted 362 kills for the season, averaging 2.97 kills per set. Dolan recorded a hitting percentage of .244.
Dolan finished the season ranked No. 30 in the NJCAA Division I for season kills.
On October 11, Dolan slammed over 21 kills against Western Wyoming Community College, her top performance of the season.
Dolan also covered the floor with 77 digs and defended the net with 69 blocks.
Amarie Huntsman
Amarie Huntsman was named to the Region IX all-tournament team.
A freshman from Spanish Fork, Utah, Huntsman is an outside hitter for the Lady Lancers.
Over the course of the season, Huntsman collected 382 kills – 2.76 per set. Huntsman’s top performance for the season was the September 6 match against Western Nebraska Community College when Huntsman tallied 19 kills.
Huntsman is ranked No. 45 in the NJCAA Division for kills.
Huntsman also totaled 140 digs on the season and 35 blocks.
The Lady Lancers travel to the NJCAA Division I national tournament in Clarksville, Tennessee, this week. EWC will play Florida Southwestern in the opening game on Wednesday, November 20 at 4 p.m.
