EWC rodeo rides in Casper

CASPER – The Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) rodeo team traveled to Casper, Wyoming, for the Ropin’ and Riggin Days from April 11-13. Over the course of the weekend, eight Lancer athletes made it to short-go  on Sunday.

Carter Anderson, a sophomore from Merriman, Nebraska, had a successful weekend in Casper. The sophomore made it back to short-go Sunday in both of his events – tie-down roping and team roping. 

In the tie-down roping, Anderson had a 9.7-second run to place second in the long. On Sunday, Carter ran 10.3 seconds to place second in the average. 

In team roping, Anderson made it back with his heeler Dalton Moore, also an EWC Lancer. The two sophomores had a 7.2-second run in the long-go to place first and second. They ended up fifth in the average. 

Anderson took home the reserve all-around cowboy for the weekend.  

Teagan Gourneau, a sophomore from Presho, South Dakota, also had a great weekend coming back to short-go in both of his events. 

In steer wrestling, Gourneau laid down a quick 5.4-second run to place fifth in the long-go and eighth in the average.

In the team roping, Gourneau and Chadron State’s Mckayla Wray, posted a 9.2-second run to place fifth in the long-go. In the short-go, the pair was one of four teams with a qualified run of 8.6 seconds to place second in the average.

In saddle bronc riding, Trey Tuplin – a freshman from Saskatchewan – scored a 65-point ride in the long round to place ninth. The freshman ended up ninth in the average for the weekend.

In the bareback riding, Cian Daly, also a freshman from Saskatchewan, scored a 57-point ride on Friday to place seventh in the long-go. On Sunday, Daly had a 70-point ride to finish seventh in the average.

In the goat tying, freshman Abby Collen from Manitoba had a quick run in the long round with a 7.4-second run to place sixth. On Sunday the freshman had some tough luck but still recovered to finish her run with an 18.5 to place seventh in the average.

Camryn Kocian, a sophomore from Brainard, Nebraska, had a great weekend in barrel racing. In the long go, Kocian had a 14.29-second run, tying for seventh and eighth in the long-go. In the short-go, the sophomore had a time of. 15.15 seconds to place eighth in the average.

Overall, it was a great weekend for the EWC Lancers as they are winding down their season. The Lancers have Easter off and will finish the season at the University of Wyoming from April 25-27.
