DOUGLAS – A Celebration of Life/Open House will be held for Evelyn Mae (Sissel) Jepson, 83, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Upper Ag Building at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds, 400 West Center Street, Douglas.

Inurnment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington at a late date.

Evelyn passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas.  

She was born Saturday, January 13, 1940 in Torrington.  Evelyn was the youngest daughter of James Ralph and Edith Orretta (Knight) Sissel.

Evelyn attended school in the Torrington public schools, graduating in May, 1958 from the Torrington High School.  On May 23, 1958 she married Donald Lee Jepson of Huntley and to this union were born two sons, Brian Grant Jepson and Craig Alan Jepson.

After their marriage they resided in Huntley for a brief time until her husband began his career in road construction.  They then lived in various towns in Wyoming until 1964 when they moved to Mills, Wyoming.  In 1969 they moved to Shirley Basin, Wyoming until 1970 when they moved to Douglas. 

Evelyn was an award-winning quilter having won many ribbons plus several “Best of Show” and “People’s Choice” awards at the Wyoming State Fair.  When her children were growing up, she was a 4-H leader and an avid high school football and wrestling team mother when the boys participated in the sports.  

Evelyn loved teaching quilting classes through the Adult Education Program in Douglas and at the State Quilt Guild’s annual meetings.  Evelyn had a green thumb and grew many beautiful flowers and always had a large garden.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, of 56 years on May 14, 2014; son, Craig, on August 5, 1985; father, James, on December 21, 1973; mother, Edith, on August 5, 1998; and grandparents.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Brian (Janette) Jepson, of Douglas; four grandchildren, Cooper (Krista) Jepson, their children Emma and Levi of Denver, Colorado, Chris Jepson of Douglas, Craig (Sally) Jepson of Douglas, and Amanda Jepson (Tomas) Baca their children, Christian and Jonathan of Amarillo, Texas; sister, Betty Joyce (Earl Dee) James of Douglas; nephew, Mike (Nan) James; nieces, Cheryl and Deanna James, and six great nieces; and one great nephew; and her many special friends and relatives.
