TORRINGTON – Funeral services for Elsie May Schaneman, 93, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery and the casket will be closed. Elsie passed away peacefully January 1, 2025, at Torrington Community Hospital. Memorials can be made to the First Congregational Church in Elsie’s name. Elsie was born April 20, 1931, in Yoder to Alexander and Christina (Burback) Keller. Elsie grew up and attended school in Lingle. After school she married the love of her life Alex Floyd Schaneman Sr. Her and Alex farmed near Lingle where they started their family. In 1954 Elsie and Alex moved their family to Sheep Creek where they finished raising their children and farming until they moved into town. Elsie was a very devoted wife and mother to her family always putting them first. In her later years she enjoyed following her grandchildren in their school activities. It was a great joy for Elsie to watch them grow up into adults she was very proud of. She took a great amount of pride in keeping up her yard and garden. Many would tell you how great of a pie baker Elsie was. She was well known for making the best pies and showing her family how to carry on the pie baking legacy. Elsie loved living in Torrington, the Nebraska Huskers, Denver Broncos and her Josh Allen. 

Elsie is survived by her children; Floyd (Kathy) Schaneman, Bailey (Bonnie) Schaneman, Valerie (Craig) Grant and Martin Schaneman. Grandchildren; Anthony (Sabrina) Schaneman, Matthew (Rachel) Schaneman, Dustin (Amy) Grant, Nicholas (Kari) Schaneman, Cody (Kelsey) Grant, Alex (Brooke) Schaneman, Ginny (Jason) Landry, Heather (Garett) MacDougall, Allison (Bryan) Kujawa. 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her sister Joyce Whipple and numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Alex Floyd Schaneman Sr, her parents Alexander and Christina, four brothers and one sister.
