TORRINGTON – “Rey” Dolores Reynaldo Martinez, 82, of Torrington, passed away on September 4, 2023, due to cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Rey managed his illness with strength and grace and wanted to spend as much time with his family as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his children, who he loved more than anything else in the world.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 22, 4 p.m. at the American Legion in Torrington.
He was born on April 4, 1941, in Colombia, Mexico. He was a loving brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. He had a great ability to make others smile. Rey Dolores Martinez will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering love for his family, and his zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Rey is survived by his brother, Ediberto (Beto) Martinez; three sons, Reynaldo (Mandy) Martinez, Ruben Martinez (Christine Richardson), Raul (Julie) Martinez; four daughters, Elizabeth (Mario) Bull, Eilda (Richard) Benjamin, Elsa Ross, Esther (Sean) Smith; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Estella Martinez; his brothers, Gregorio Jr. and Santos Ramiro, and his sister, Marta Maria Martinez Perez.
