TORRINGTON – The City Council on Tuesday named Torrington native Matthew Mattis to join the city’s ruling body.
On a motion by member Deanna Hill, seconded by Bill Law, the council voted unanimously to appoint Mattis to fill the seat of former councilmember Randy Adams, who was elected mayor in November 2018.
Mattis “is a great candidate, he’s a great choice,” Adams said in announcing the council’s decision.
Mattis was selected from a field of eight candidates, who were interviewed behind closed doors during an executive session prior to Tuesday’s regular meeting. Deliberations on Mattis’ appointment were also held in executive session Tuesday and Adams declined to provide the names of the remaining seven candidates.
Adams said Mattis, a product of Torrington schools, works as a physician’s assistant at Community Hospital in Torrington.
