CHEYENNE – On Friday, March 28, Wyoming State Governor Mark Gordon released a statement appointing Nathaniel Hibben of Torrington to be a district court judge for the First Judicial District of Laramie County.

Hibben currently has been serving as a circuit court judge since 2019 for the Eighth Judicial District of Goshen County. His appointment fills the vacancy of judge Steven Sharpe who announced his retirement after more than a decade of service in January.

According to the release, Hibben previously worked as a private practice attorney, municipal court judge for Torrington and Deputy Goshen County Attorney. Hibben also served as a public defender.

“Once again, the Judicial Nominating Commission provided me with three superlative candidates,” Governor Gordon said in his release. “Judge Hibben’s consistent application of the law as a circuit court judge and his balanced legal experience will be valuable in his new role.”

“My thanks to Governor Gordon and the Judicial Nominating Commission for their work on this process and my thanks to Governor Gordon for the honor of this appointment,” Hibben said in Gordon’s release. “I look forward to serving the people of Laramie County, and I am proud to be a part of the Wyoming judiciary.”

Hibben’s appointment is effective May 9, 2025.
