YODER – The Southeast High School Choir is once again offering to help jazz up Valentine’s Day. For the 13th year, school music teacher, Brittany Weglin, has announced the choir will be traveling throughout the county – singing love songs – to help offset costs associated with choir.
“Whether they are your spouse, your best friend, your hard-working colleague or your secret admirer, everyone deserves to feel special on Valentine’s Day,” Weglin announced.
According to Weglin, the school choir is there to help. On Thursday, February 13, the choir will begin delivering a special valentine to the Yoder community, at the high school, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. before making their way to the Torrington and Lingle communities from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We do this at the schools,” members of the choir explained. “We’ll go to Lingle and then we’ll go to Torrington – the school and some of the businesses.”
“Each person we sing to will get a song, a flower and a chocolate bar,” Weglin explained.
The cost of the singing valentine’s is $20 and according to Weglin, proceeds go to help the school music program.
“We have an activity account, much like basketball or the loser club has activity accounts and it pays for t-shirts for a spring concert,” Weglin said. “It pays for music. It pays for instrument repair. It pays for a lot of different things.”
The choir will perform Just the Way you Are by Bruno Mars, Ain’t no Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye, Dynamite by Taio Cruz or Build Me Up Buttercup by The Foundations – customer’s choice. Matter of fact, Weglin further explained the choir would also perform I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You by Elvis Presley or You are so Beautiful by Joe Cocker.
“We deliver a lot of them to schools and since we don’t have school on Friday, on actual Valentine’s Day, we’re doing it on the 13,” Weglin said.
According to Weglin, reservations need to be made in advance to participate in the singing Valentine’s greetings.
“Really, as soon as possible,” Weglin said. “But I’ll take them up until the day before. You can email me, call the school and I have a form they can fill out.”
Weglin also noted the choir had some new participants this year who would be joining the returning members during the song delivery on Thursday.
