Her teaching career began in Riverton, where she met James Mueller. Carol and Jim married August 10, 1963. They lived in Riverton and had their first son, Rusty in 1965. Spending time at their cabin near Laramie Peak, traveling to visit children and grandchildren, playing bridge, and activities with PEO, North Hills Baptist Church, the Senior Center, and American Legion Auxiliary filled her time after that.

In 2013, Jim and Carol celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary by repeating their 1963 honeymoon trip to Banff and other sites in Canada. Carol loved teaching and impacted so many young students lifes, who attended school in Torrington. In more recent years she loved spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them about Wyoming history and nature.
