TORRINGTON – This Monday, Goshen County Library was filled with smiling faces of all ages. They held, both, their Maker Monday and their Explore International Cuisine dinner on Monday evening.
The adult group of the library got to experience their first international cuisine tastings for the year. For the month of September, they focused on Mediterranean food. They have around nine people visit the library, and they signed up to make a Mediterranean recipe from a designated cookbook.
On Monday, everyone prepared their dish and showed up to share with their peers. They got to taste each other’s dishes and have some nice conversations. They were very excited to experience it. According to the new adult program coordinator and circulation manager, Bethany Rose, this month’s participants were already wanting to get ready for the next month’s cuisine. They are coming up with next ideas and thinking about what they want to cook. They are really excited to be starting this new program.
On the same night, the library also held their weekly Maker Monday. From four to six, the library welcomes kids and their families in to do pre-prepared crafts. They are great for all ages. They do things like painting, cutting and gluing to work on these skills for children in a fun way. A lot of these activities are season-based as well. This week, the kids made mosaics on little pumpkins.
Children’s librarian, Betsy Schmick, said it’s really just a time for families to spend time working and interacting with each other. They don’t have to spend any time coming up with and organizing an activity. They can just show up and participate.
Each week they organize a new activity for families to enjoy, worry-free. It’s really great seeing parents spending time working with their kids.
