Bond revoked for sex offender

GOSHEN COUNTY – A bench warrant has been issued for a 21-year-old Torrington man, Dakota Reese Redich for failure to report as a sex offender.

Redich was charged with two counts of failure to report as a sex offender between the dates of June 4 and June 18, 2024, and between June 10 and June 17, 2024.

“On 9 April 2024 Dakota Redich came to the sheriff’s office to register as a sex offender per Wyoming State Statute. Dakota was advised of the rules of the sex offender registration process,” the affidavit of probable cause, filed July 17, 2024, explained.a

The affidavit explains, Redich was informed he needed to report to the sheriff’s office within 72 hours of changing his address.

In June 2024, Redich went to the sheriff’s office to report he had been kicked out of the home where he was residing and was homeless.

“It was explained to Dakota that he needed to check in once a week while registered as homeless. Dakota failed to check in between June 10-17, 2024, as per his homeless registration” the affidavit reads.

The affidavit further explained Redich had visited his girlfriend at the Goshen County Detention Center on June 4 and 5, 2024, where he filled out the required visitation forms using his old address on both dates.

“On both occasions, Dakota failed to update his sex offender registration with his address. Dakota was arrested on 18 June 2024 by the Torrington Police Department,” the affidavit said. “During the booking process Dakota provided the address of (redacted) Torrington, Wyoming, as his home address. This address is not listed on Dakota’s sex offender registration.”

“Dakota missed one check in while homeless and failed to change his home address for 14 days. When Dakota was told by the affiant [Goshen County Sheriff, Kory Fleenor] about not providing his current address and knowing he had lied for several weeks about his address Dakota said, ‘I’m sorry, it won’t happen again,” the affidavit read.

Redich appeared for his preliminary hearing on July 24, 2024. Redich pled not guilty to both counts and a jury trial was scheduled for December 2024.

On November 14, Redich, through his attorney, filed a motion to change his plea from not guilty to guilty. His hearing was then set for November 26, 2024. Redich was granted the court’s permission to attend the hearing electronically from Missouri where he was residing with his father.

Court documents indicate Redich entered a voluntary plea of guilty to one count, count two, of failure to register as a sex offender and the state, represented by Eric Boyer, dropped the first of the two counts of failure to register. The state also recommended Redich complete a series of investigations prior to sentencing.

“It is further order that the Wyoming Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole, shall conduct a presentence investigation and shall submit a report summarizing the investigation to the court and the counsel for the state and the defense for their review prior to sentencing,” the filed order finding guilt and ordering presentencing investigation document said. “The defendant (Redich) was ordered to immediately report to the Wyoming Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole.”

A sentencing hearing was scheduled for March 10, 2025.

A petition to revoke bond and request for issuance of warrant was file on March 24, 2025.

“On July 19, 2024, the above-named defendant (Redich) made his initial appearance in the Eighth Judicial Cricut Court and was ordered not to violate any court order, issued by any court. On August 13, 2024, the defendant appeared for arraignment in the Eighth Judicial Cricut Court and the previously ordered bond and its conditions were continued,” court documents explained. “On November 26, 2024, the defendant appeared before the court and entered a plea of guilty to the crime failure to register as a sex offender. At the time, court ordered the defendant to immediately report to the Wyoming Department of Correction, Probation and Parole. The court further ordered that a pre-sentence investigation be conducted.”

The document further asks the courts to revoke Redich’s bond and issue a warrant for his arrest.

“Said defendant was scheduled to participate in a substance abuse evaluation on or about December 18, 2024. Mr. Redich told the assessor that he could not attended that assessment because there was a death in the family and his assessment was rescheduled for about January 14, 2025,” the affidavit of Jason L. Bauer, a probation and parole agent explained. “Said defendant failed to report for his assessment on January 14, 2025. His assessor, Anna Harberts, reported that he called her on January 16 and said he would not be coming to Wyoming to complete his assessment and asked her if a warrant was going to be issued for his arrest.”

Bauer’s affidavit further explained the agent he had made contact with Redich’s stepmother. It was reported Redich did not see the point and believed to was too late to remedy the situation.

A bench warrant was issued March 26.

Redich is described as a 5’8, 180 pound, white male with brown hair and hazel eyes.
