Blazers wraps up regular season; 3A East Regionals to be held in Douglas Feb. 17-18

ALLIANCE, Neb. – The Torrington High School wrestling team wrapped up the 2022-23 regular season with a dual in Alliance on Thursday and a weekend tournament in Rawlins on Friday and Saturday.

The Blazers opened the weekend with a 46-18 victory over the Alliance Bulldogs.

Alliance was open at 106 pounds before the Bulldogs picked up wins at 113 and 120, giving the home team a 12-6 lead.

Torrington then rattled off eight straight wins.

Barrett Eichenberger started the streak of wins with a 14-1 major decision at 126 pounds. At 132 pounds, Colby Sandusky picked up a pin in the second period. Brendan Woodard got a first period fall at 145 points, while Hunter Massie won by a tiebreaker at 152 pounds. JR Ruiz and Bryce Hager picked up wins by pin at 160 and 170 pounds, respectively, and Matthew Hellus scored a forfeit win at 182 pounds.

Both teams were open at 195 and 220, and Alliance capped off the dual with a third period fall in the heavyweight bout.

Then, the Blazers traveled to Rawlins, going winless on the weekend.

Torrington opened with a 52-30 loss to Moffat County (Colorado).

Sandusky, Kaden Romig (138), Chase Graves (285), Tyler Nicolay (106) and Ty Albaugh (113) picked up wins for the Blazers.

In the second round, the Blazers came up against the Rawlins Outlaws 36-33.

Romig, Woodard, Hellus, Graves, Nicolay, Albaugh picked up win for Torrington.

In the third round, Pinedale defeated the Blazes 59-18.

Hager, Nicolay and Albaugh won by fall in the only wins of the dual for the Blazers.

In the fourth round, Torrington fell to Evanston 60-23.

Woodard, Albaugh, Eichenberger and Sandusky got wins for the Blazers in the loss.

No scores and results were available from the final round against Lyman/West Grand.

The Blazers head to the 3A East Regional Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18 in Douglas.
