Blazers rout Gering

TORRINGTON – A cold, relentless wind and driving rain greeted the Torrington High School Blazers soccer team as they hosted Gering for the 2025 spring season home-opener on Tuesday, April 1.

The Blazers were unfazed by the elements and successfully defended the Old Wiseman Field to rout Gering, 5-1.

The Torrington offense and midfield controlled the game for most of the first half, with the Blazers spending a majority of the opening 40 minutes of regulation in Gering’s territory.

Torrington netted two goals in the first half while an ironclad Blazer defense shut out Gering on the few occasions the Bulldogs advanced into Torrington’s zone.

The Blazers outscored Gering in the second half, 3-1, to seal the win.

“I thought the boys came out and played hard against Gering,” coach Jeshua Arnusch said. “On offense, (senior) Skyler Thomas, (sophomore) Nathan Lira and (senior) Elijah Hatch worked hard on their new positions and did a good job of pressing Gering’s defense. I also thought (junior) Anthony Arnusch and (junior) Beaux Shimic played a solid game in the midfleid, especially with the wet field conditions.”

The Blazers boarded the bus to play conference rival Worland on Friday, April 4.

“Worland is the team to beat,” Arnusch remarked. “One thing we need to continue to work on this week is defensive shape – we are going to have to be very disciplined defensively. The Worland game will be a great test to see what we need to work on.”
