Blazers fall to Bridgeport, 76-47


BRIDGEPORT, NEBRASKA. – The Torrington High School Blazers squared off against a tough, ranked Bridgeport Bulldogs varsity squad  Tuesday.

The Blazers won the first half, 15-13, and remained ahead early in the second quarter. 

Bridgeport’s offense and defense both clicked midway into the second quarter and the Bulldogs pulled ahead, 40-26, by halftime.

Bridgeport maintained its momentum into the second half to post the win, 76-47.

The Blazers took the initiative first on Tuesday, establishing a 4-0 lead right out of the gates in the first quarter. Junior Mac Hibben grabbed a steal, setting fellow junior Weston Dyer up to net a close-range shot.

Dyer rustled a steal and Hibben scored a jumper.

Junior Ryan Moorehouse maintained Torrington’s lead in the first quarter, shooting 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. 

Both Dyer and Hibben found openings in Bridgeport’s perimeter to score and Bartlett tossed in a free throw, placing the Blazers up, 15-13, at the end of the first quarter.

Moorehouse widened Torrington’s lead, 17-13, with a jumper as the second quarter commenced.

The Bulldogs edged up and managed to tie the game at 18 points following a free throw by Dyer. 

Hibben converted an and-1 and Bartlett went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe before Bridgeport went on a point run to widen its lead, 37-23.

Dyer kept momentum going for the Blazers before halftime with a deep outside shot with seven seconds remaining in the second quarter.

Bridgeport outmaneuvered Torrington in scoring in the third quarter, 21-12. The Blazers managed to pack some punches, however, led by sophomore Landre Greiman with a 3-pointer, a jumper and a pair of free throws. Bartlett made a layup and junior Brayden Hime scored from inside the paint.

Four Blazers contributed to Torrington’s nine points in the fourth quarter, with Hime posting four, Hibben and junior Kaiden Riggs two apiece and junior Ethan Robbins contributing a free throw.

Dyer led the Blazers in scoring against the Bulldogs with 10 points. Hibben posted nine, Moorehouse and Greiman seven each, Hime six and Bartlett five.

The Blazers host Douglas on Friday at the Willi Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
