RAWLINS – The Torrington High School Blazers battled the Rawlins Outlaws through four point-for-point quarters at an away game to end the regular season on Friday, February 28.
Torrington led by two possessions at halftime, 22-18 and remained up, 31-29, as the fourth quarter began. Rawlins ultimately pulled ahead in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of the free-throw line to post a one-possession win, 48-46.
Torrington finishes the regular season as the No. 5 seed in 2A East with a 5-5 conference record. The Blazers kick off the regional tournament in Glenrock on Thursday with a rematch against Rawlins (No. 4) at 6 p.m.
On Friday, Torrington won the first quarter against Rawlins, 10-8. Junior Landre Greiman netted four points for the Blazers while seniors Mac Hibben, Ryan Moorehouse and Weston Dyer each contributed a bucket.
The Blazers remained ahead at halftime by two possessions, 22-18, by outscoring Rawlins in the second quarter, 12-10.
Greiman tallied double-digit scoring in the second quarter with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Rawlins pulled ahead early in the third quarter, 25-22. Senior Brayden Hime responded with a close-range shot and sophomore Julian Stromski drained a trey to place Torrington back in the lead, 27-25.
Rawlins regained the advantage, 29-28. Greiman went 2-for-2 at the charity stripe and Torrington found itself up by one, 29-28.
Greiman scored on a fastbreak and the third quarter ended with the Blazers ahead, 31-29.
Torrington remained up early in the fourth quarter, 37-33, with an inside shot and trey by Stromski.
Rawlins tied the game, 36-36, midway into the fourth. An outside shot by the Outlaws put Rawlins back ahead, 39-36.
Hibben lined up for a 3-pointer and the game deadlocked, 39-39. Torrington recaptured the lead, 41-39, with a close-range shot by Stromski.
Rawlins took control of the scoreboard in the final minute of regulation from the free-throw line despite a buzzer-beating half-court shot by Greiman.
Greiman paced the Blazers in scoring against Rawlins with 23 points. Stromski netted 10 points, Hibben seven with two apiece by Moorehouse, Dyer and Hime.
