DOUGLAS – A successful weekend for the Torrington High School Blazers basketball team culminated in back-to-back victories at home and on the road.

The Blazer offense responded in the second quarter with 19 points while the Torrington defense ramped up the pressure to hold Mitchell to seven.
By halftime, the Blazers controlled the scoreboard by 12 points, 34-22.
Torrington continued to apply the pressure in the third quarter, topping Mitchell in scoring, 19-14. Mitchell attempted to bridge the deficit with 14 points in the fourth quarter to eight by Torrington, but ultimately came up short.

“This was a great team win for us on the road,” coach Logan Barker said. “The last few years we have struggled to top Mitchell but were able to come together and get it done this week. We are still focusing on making sure we finish games instead of letting teams come back and make it a ball game. I was very proud of how (the Blazers) were able to turn the momentum enough to finish this game and walk away with a victory.”
Burns
Torrington came out fast and furious in the first quarter, more than doubling the Broncs in scoring, 24-11.
Hibben opened the game with a close-range shot and grabbed a steal. Dyer scored on a fastbreak before Greiman drained an outside shot.
Dyer snagged a steal, Greiman went 2-for-2 at the charity stripe and Hibben tossed in a 3-pointer.
Hibben scored on a fastbreak and switching to defense, blocked an attempt to score by Burns.

Sophomore Drew Kramer rounded out scoring in the first with a jumper.
The Torrington offense tallied 20 more points in the second quarter, led by Stromski with eight and four apiece by Hibben, Greiman and Hime. Defensively, the Blazers held Burns to six points, including steals by Stromski, Greiman and Hibben while Booth made a block.
The halftime score favored Torrington, 44-17.
Torrington topped Burns in scoring, 20-12, in the third quarter to widen its lead, 64-29, as the final quarter began. Dyer set the pace offensively with eight points while Moorehouse and Stromski both contributed four points. On defense, Moorehouse, Dyer, Hibben and Booth each picked up steals.
Torrington’s reserve players entered the game in the final eight minutes of regulation. Sophomore Gabe Jackson tossed in a 3-pointer and picked up a steal. Fellow sophomore Carter Groene also snatched a steal.
Four Blazers netted double digits against Burns with Dyer leading the way at 17 points. Greiman and Stromski both collected 15 points while Hibben tallied 13. Moorehouse contributed six points and Hime four.

“This was a complete win for our boys,” coach Barker said. “We really meshed on Friday as a team and were able to run in transition like we want to. The beauty of it was that our scoring was very even. We are working on getting better each week and have a tough slate of games ahead of us with Wheatland and Douglas, but we are excited and ready for the challenge.”
