FORT LARAMIE – Members of the High Plains Amateur Radio Club will be operating a special event station at the Fort Laramie National Historic Site June 9-10 to honor the courage and bravery of pioneer women that traveled on the Oregon Trail.
June 10 will be the 172th anniversary of the death of Mary Homsley, who died from the measles near Fort Laramie while traveling with her family on the Oregon Trail. Her gravestone has been preserved near the fort.
The purpose of the event will be to contact other amateur radio stations across the U.S. and the world to remind others of the courage of pioneer women. This event is made possible by the staff of the Fort Laramie National Historic Site, including Casey Osback, chief of interpretation and visitor services.
For more information please contact Mike Swihart, President (970-593-2100) or Lee Milner, Secretary/treasurer (307-532-5291) of the High Plains Amateur Radio Club.
