All-Stars advance in District Tournament; 11-12 All-Stars blank Platte Valley Little League

DOUGLAS – The Torrington 11-12-year-old All-Stars remain unbeaten at the Wyoming Little League District No. 2 Tournament in Douglas.

For the second consecutive day, it took the older All-Star squad only three innings to advance to the next round of the tournament.

Bryce Booth and Owen Curry combined for a no-hitter in a 15-0 victory over the Platte Valley Little League Trout, based out of Saratoga.

Booth struck out seven Platte Valley batters in 2 2/3 innings, while Curry struck out one of the two batters he faced.

Offensively, Torrington plated three runs in the first inning with two. Barrett Bruch, Curry, Kane Correa and Ebin Hunter walked in consecutive at-bats to put the All-Stars up 1-0.

Colby Groene singled, driving in two more runs.

In the second, Booth and Case Gonzalez walked to begin the inning, and Brody Shields laid down a bunt single to load the bases. A pair of fielder’s choice pushed the lead Torrington lead to 5-0. Asher Mattis drove in the team’s third run of the inning with a bunt single.

In the third, Platte Valley got its only two base runners of the game on with two out, before Torrington poured on nine runs in the bottom half of the inning to close out the game.

Shields and Mattis led Torrington with two hits apiece. The duo also combined for three RBIs and two runs scored.

In all, Torrington tallied seven hits and were issued 10 walks.

Through two games, Torrington has outscored its two opponents 35-0 and have given up one hit.

The District No. 2 Tournament wraps up on Friday in Douglas.
