GOSHEN COUNTY – Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) provided end of year totals for Goshen County and statewide for 2022 on Tuesday.

In its report, WDH reported there were 49,670 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases in 2022 and another 16,082 unconfirmed but probable cases. The department also reported 338 COVID-19 related deaths in 2022. Goshen County reported 1,497 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases and 300 suspected cases in 2022 according to WDH.

Since the department started recording COVID-19 cases in 2020, the state has recorded 142,677 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 40,474 suspected COVID-19 cases and 1,958 COVID-19 related deaths statewide.

Of the total statewide cases since the start of the pandemic, Goshen County recorded 4,004 laboratory-confirmed cases, 592 suspected or probable cases and 62 COVID-19 related deaths. According to WDH, Goshen has recorded 4,596 total lab-confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases since February 2020 through the end of December 2022.

According to WDH, there have been six COVID-19 related cases reported in the last seven days, two of which have been confirmed via laboratory testing.

As reported by WDH, there were 59 cases reported in Goshen County from the end of November through New Year’s Day for 2022; during the same time period in 2021 the county recorded 220 COVID-19 cases and 111 cases during the same time in 2020.

The department does not give an explanation as to why the number of cases are half that of cases reported in 2020 and 1/4 of the number of cases reported in 2021.

The average number of lab-confirmed daily COVID-19 cases spiked four times in Goshen County since February 2020: Nov. 24, 2020, reporting a seven-day average of 23.1 lab-confirmed cases; Oct. 14, 2021, reporting a seven-day average of 29 lab-confirmed cases; Jan. 27, 2022, reporting a seven-day average of 37.9 lab-confirmed cases; and July 13, 2022, reporting a seven-day average of 36.4 lab-confirmed cases.

Of the 4,004 laboratory-confirmed cases in Goshen County from February 2020 through December 2022: 448 cases were residents aged 18 and younger; 644 cases were residents aged 19-29; 703 cases were residents aged 30-39; 615 were residents aged 40-49; 541 cases were residents aged 50-59; 516 cases were residents aged 60-69; 323 cases were residents aged 70-79; and 214 cases were residents 80 years old and older.

The data from WDH suggest COVID-19 disproportionately affected males in the county: of the 4,004 lab-confirmed cases in Goshen County, 2,035 patients were male and 1,555 patients were female. However, 411 cases were from patients where gender was not recorded.

In 2020, Goshen County recorded 970 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 79 probable cases and 21 COVID-19 related deaths.

In 2021, Goshen County recorded 1,530 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 212 probable cases and 32 COVID-19 related deaths.

In 2022, Goshen County recorded 1,502 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 301 probable cases and 9 COVID-19 related deaths.

WDH defines probable cases as individuals who had positive antigen tests or were/are symptomatic and/or had close contacts of lab-confirmed cases with or without symptoms.
