Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Violet went to Heaven to be with her Lord Jesus on Dec. 30, 2022. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com.

Violet was born Oct. 10, 1928 in Sterling, Colorado to Henry H. and Hilda (Dick) Sinner. She grew up in the Iliff, Colorado area before the family moved to the Huntley, Wyoming/Lyman, Nebraska community. Violet and her siblings attended Huntley School where she graduated in May of 1947.

On June 22, 1947, she married her war hero Harold E. Greenwald, and the couple established their farming career near Table Mountain. Two children were born to Violet and Harold-a daughter Cheryl Lynn and a son David Henry Greenwald. They continued farming until 1966 when during beet harvest, Harold died suddenly of heart failure at age forty. As a thirty-eight-year-old widow, Violet leased out the farms and revived her high school training in typing and shorthand to become a legal secretary for Hathaway and Sigler, where she worked for twenty years. Retirement allowed her more time to serve the Lord by helping others. She was active in her church circles, studies and services, such as serving funeral dinners, teaching Sunday School and playing the organ. She dearly loved tending to her great-grandchildren after school and joining her lady-friends on outings around town. In February 2020, dementia robbed Violet of her memories and abilities and cruelly uprooted her from her home. She lived for two years in Goshen Care Center until she peacefully died to this life.

Violet’s survivors include one daughter Cheryl (Curtis) Grandstaff of LaGrange; a son David (Dawn) Greenwald of Tularosa, New Mexico; five grandchildren, Robyn (Lance) Reyes of Torrington, Cheree Grandstaff of Torrington, Tonya (Don) Coogan of Broomfield, Colorado, Justin (Lindsay) Greenwald of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Jacob Greenwald of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; six great-grandchildren, Gage (Ashley) Hoff of Torrington, Kalissa Reyes of Torrington, Colin, Ainsley, and Zoe Coogan of Broomfield, and Ivan Greenwald of Las Cruses; two great-great-grandchildren Raeleigh and Hazeleigh Hoff of Torrington; a sister Linda (James) Ferguson of Omaha, Nebraska; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
