TORRINGTON – Funeral services for Vernon E. Briggs, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church with Pastors Mary Beth Mau and Kate Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Vernon died June 30, 2017 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to Heritage Estates. The casket will be open prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Colyer Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com.
Vernon was born Dec. 9, 1937, to Thomas and Flossie (Pounds) Briggs on the family homestead in Goshen County. He attended school in Huntley, graduating high school there. He married Darlene Fox on Oct. 21, 1956, in Huntley.
He served in the Wyoming National Guard from 1955 to 1063. He lived and farmed in the Table Mountain area until May of 2015, when the family moved to Scottsbluff, Neb. He entered Heritage Estates in October of 2015.
Vernon was a member of the South Goshen Community Church.
Vernon is survived by his wife Darlene Briggs of Scottsbluff; sons Thomas (Cindy) Briggs of Scottsbluff, David (Gina) Briggs of Alliance, Neb., and Robert (Lisa) Briggs of Lyman, Neb.; daughters Beverly (Gregg) Burroughs and Becky (Ronald) Schmidt, both of Torrington; a brother Howard (Imogene) Briggs of Scottsbluff; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Everett Briggs and David Briggs, and sisters Agnes Clark and Ruth Ann Fogleman.
