LINGLE – The Town of Lingle will swear in one new council member next month, with two officials retaining their seats.

On Lingle’s Election Day, May 8, Mayor George Siglin bested challenger Decilla Watson 79 to 41. Incumbent council member Joe Welte also kept his spot with 66 votes. The town will swear in new member Steve Edwardson, receiving 75 votes, at the June 6 meeting.

“Thanks to all those who voted in the election,” Siglin said at the council meeting Wednesday. “One hundred and twenty-four voted – it was a great turnout. It doesn’t matter who you voted for – it’s outstanding that our community gets that involved.”

In other business:

n The council approved Lingle resident Marcia Schilreff’s request to own six chickens within town limits.

n New Corner Bar owner Patty Franklin advised she plans on updating the business’ sign in Lingle. Franklin provided council members with a mock-up and said the work will take place Friday.

n Upon receiving a structural engineering report, the council agreed to keep the Town of Lingle community center/Legion Hall closed permanently due to safety concerns.

“I hate to see those old buildings go, but this is past the point of salvage,” Welte said later in the meeting.

n The council approved two ordinances: the first reading of an document relating to the annual appropriation for the Town of Lingle for July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019; as well as an ordinance granting a franchise to Vyve Broadband to maintain a cable communications system in the Town of Lingle.

n Clerk-Treasurer Michele Sussex stated Lingle Town Hall will be closed Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day.

n Council member Paula Newcomb issued a reminder about the parade for the upcoming 100th anniversary celebration.

“It is on July 14th and starts at 10:30 (a.m.). Line up at 9 (a.m.),” she said. “Sign-up is free, but you’ll need to fill out a form. Anyone can be in the parade: individuals, groups, organizations, businesses, churches, political runners – anyone. Come join the big 100th celebration by joining in on our parade.”

For the parade entry form, call Newcomb at (307) 241-0069 or visit Lingle Town Hall during regular business hours.

n The next council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 6 at 5 p.m. at Lingle
Town Hall.
