TORRINGTON – Torrington senior Avery West served up an ace to score the match’s first point, but Wheatland scored seven of the next eight points, forcing the Lady Blazers to call a quick timeout.

Wheatland went on to defeat Torrington 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 16-25, 25-15) in the Lady Blazers’ first match since Friday, Sept. 3.

In the opening set, Wheatland led 7-2, and after back-to-back serving errors by the visitors, the Lady Blazers cut the deficit to as few as 11-9 before the Lady Bulldogs pulled away again.

In the second set, the Lady Bulldogs scored the first three points, but Torrington battled back.

A short serve which ended up in the net, and a kill from senior Allison Brummell, put Torrington in front 8-6.

However, Wheatland scored the next seven points, but once again, Torrington crawled back into the match. Brummell tied the match at 19, as the teams traded points.

A shared block from West and Brummell gave Torrington a 21-20 lead, but Wheatland capped off the set, scoring the final five points of the set.

In the third set, Torrington raced out to a 6-1 advantage behind a pair of kills from senior Reece Halley and two serving aces from junior Marissa Moorehouse.

Torrington never trailed in the set to prevent the sweep, extending the match to another set.

In the fourth set, Wheatland put away Torrington with a 10-point win.

The next day, the Lady Blazers traveled to Burns for another 3A Southeast Quad match.

The teams swapped set wins, and Torrington picked up its first quadrant victory of the season 3-2 (26-24, 19-25, 25-12, 13-25, 15-9).

The Lady Blazers (3-7 overall and 1-2 in the 3A Southeast) travel to Newcastle (7-10 and 1-1 in the 3A Northeast) on Friday, Sept. 24. Action gets underway at 6 p.m.
