DOUGLAS – The Torrington Trailblazers found themselves in a back-and-forth affair late in the game against Worland in the opening round of the 3A East Regional Tournament and they were unable to secure the win, falling 50-47.
The Blazers came out a bit sow, with a Josh Posten bucket late in the first cutting the Worland advantage to 10-6. By halftime, the Warriors were up 16-15.
Torrington matched its first-half scoring in the third quarter, putting up 15 points, while Worland also put up 15, putting the score at 31-30 with a frame to go. With 4:50 to go, Worland took a 39-33 lead but Torrington cut into that lead and with 1:30 left, the Blazers were up 45-42. The Warriors took a 46-45 lead, but another Blazer bucket gave the Blazers a 47-46 lead with 25 ticks left. Worland rattled off four-straight points to seal the win.
Torrington's loss dropped it to the consolation bracket, with a 10 a.m. matchup tomorrow against the loser between Buffalo and Wheatland. If the Blazers fall tomorrow morning, they are eliminated from the tournament and their season is done.
