TORRINGTON – The Torrington Tigers Senior Legion baseball team had its first home games of the season in a double-header against Fort Morgan, Colo. on Sunday, falling in both contests by a combined score of 20-9.

The Tigers piled up seven runs in the first contest Sunday, but Fort Morgan doubled up Torrington’s score to win 14-7. The Tigers kept the visitors to six runs in the second game, but were only able to score two runs, falling 6-2.

“We played pretty good,” manager Andy Brown said. “We minimized walks. Our pitching was good, but they just hit the ball well.”

In addition to what Brown saw on the mound, he was pleased with the team’s offense in the double-header, despite the loss.

“We hit the ball well and we did great on the base paths, they just out-hit us,” he said.

Full stats for the two games Sunday were unavailable to the Telegram at press time.

Torrington also played on the road in Cheyenne on Monday in a nine-inning game. The Tigers suffered a 15-5 loss at the hands of the Hawks. Stats for Monday’s game were unavailable at press time.

After Sunday’s home games against Fort Morgan and the road contest Monday, the Tigers sit with a 1-6 record. The team played Tuesday on the road against Gordon, Neb. after press time, before returning to action tonight (Wednesday) in a double-header with games at 5 and 7 p.m. in Alliance, Neb.

“We had a very slow start at 1-5,” Brown said after Sunday’s games. “On the positive side, it’s only up from here. We started out slow last year and ended up as one of the best teams in the state. I have full confidence that we will end as one of the top teams this year.”
