BUFFALO – The Torrington Tigers traveled to Buffalo on Friday, picking up a road sweep over the Buffalo Bulls.

They outscored the Bulls 30-8 in a pair of run-ruled contests.

Tigers blowout Buffalo twice

BUFFALO – The Torrington Tigers traveled to Buffalo on Friday, picking up a road sweep over the Buffalo Bulls.

They outscored the Bulls 30-8 in a pair of run-ruled contests.

In game one, Torrington didn’t waste any time jumping on Buffalo. The visiting Tigers scored five runs in the first inning en route to a 14-4 win.

Aidyn Saucedo and Austin Short began the game with singles, and Ben Firminhac tripled giving the Tigers an early 2-0 lead. Ayden Desmond singled, making the score 3-0 before Buffalo recorded the first out of the game. Bryce Hager and Matthew Hellus also tallied hits in the inning for Torrington.

An error added to the Tiger lead in the second, but Torrington scored its final eight runs in the top of the third inning.

Buffalo’s lone offense came in the bottom of the fifth before Deagan Keith came on to record the final two outs of the game. Saucedo was credited with the win, pitching 4 1/3 innings, striking out five.

Offensively, Torrington tallied 11 hits. Short, Desmond, Hager and Hellus had two apiece.

In game two, the Tigers scored early and often again in a 16-4 victory.

Torrington scored four in the first, seven in the second, one in the third and fourth in fourth. The Tigers sprinkled 11 hits over five innings in the win.

Meanwhile Buffalo socred once in the bottom of the first and three times in the third. Torrington pitching limited the Bulls to only four hits for the game.

Ryder Hackbarth led Torrington with a 3-for-3 game with three runs scored and three RBIs. Short added two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Ben Firminhac was the winning pitcher, pitching four innings, striking out two and surrendering no earned runs.

The Tigers (14-8 overall and 4-4 in the ‘A’ Southeast) are back in action at home in their final home game of the season at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 against the Cheyenne Hawks (20-11 and 4-0). The doubleheader also wraps up conference play for the Tigers.
