CHEYENNE – The Torrington Blazer wrestling team went 2-4 on the day in the dual-format tournament.

Torrington opened the day with a pair of victories, defeating the Bonanza – a team consisting of wrestlers from a number of schools – 53-23.

CHEYENNE – The Torrington Blazer wrestling team went 2-4 on the day in the dual-format tournament.

Torrington opened the day with a pair of victories, defeating the Bonanza – a team consisting of wrestlers from a number of schools – 53-23.

Brandon Bennick (285 pounds), Josh Stitt (106), Quentin Meyer (132), Pake Haun (145), Cody Pierce (152), Jacob Polkowske (160), Casey Britton (170), Josh Kinglsey (182) and Alejandro Chavarria (195) picked up wins for the Blazers.

Bennick, Meyer, Pierce, Polkowske and Britton got wins by fall, while Haun picked up a technical fall win over Khody Snyder of Wheatland.

In the second round, the Blazers defeated Burns-Pine Bluffs, 48-28.

Stitt, Riley Duffield, Madison McCart, Meyer, Haun, Polkowske, Britton and Bennick earned the wins for Torrington.

Bennick, Meyer, Haun, Polkowske and Britton won by fall.

In the final round, Cheyenne East handed the Blazers their first loss of the day.

Polkowske, Kingsley and Bennick picked up the only three victories – all by fall.

In the first round of the championship bracket, Cheyenne Central defeated Torrington, 48-27.

Meyer, Pierce, Polkowske and Bennick were the lone winners for the Blazers.

The loss dropped Torrington to the third-place match against conference foe Douglas.

The match came down the final bouts. Heading into final four matches, Torrington led 30-27 after Bennick lost a 3-2 decision, but Stitt’s match at 106 was opening, pushing the Torrington lead to 38-27 with two matches remaining.

Meyer, Kash Kelly, Polkowske, Kingsley and Alejandro Chavarria also picked wins for the Blazers.

Douglas picked up pins at 113 and 120, escaping with a 39-38 victory over the Blazers.

Cheyenne East won the tournament, while Cheyenne Central was second.

Torrington will host Central on Monday, Jan. 7. Junior varsity action gets underway at 5 p.m. with varsity scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
