YODER – After Mother Nature forced the Rawlins to cancel the annual Rumble in Rawlins Tournament, the Torrington High School wrestling team became a late addition to the Southeast Dual lineup.

The Blazers ended up 14th with one dual victory on the day.

Torrington was matched in the same pool with Sidney, Neb., Burns-Pine Bluffs and Morrill, Neb., dropping all three duals.

In the opening round, Sidney knocked off the Blazers, 72-6.

Senior Kevin Ferguson picked up the lone THS win at 152 pounds by fall of Tristen Whited.

In the second round, it was junior Gabe Mitchell grabbing the Blazer’s only win of the match by pin at 182 pounds in a 60-6 loss to Burns-Pine Bluffs.

In the final pool match, Torrington began and ended the dual with wins, but the Blazers came up short against the Morrill Lions, 30-24.

At 160 pounds, senior Tyler Juma and Mitchell gave THS an early 12-6 lead courtesy of a pair of forfeits by Morrill.

Morrill rattled off four straight wins before Matthew Hellus won by forfeit. Ferguson capped off the dual with a fall victory over Diego Paniagua in the second period.

The 0-3 pool record for the Blazers dropped them top the consolation bracket where they faced Sioux County, Neb. in the opening round.

The dual featured only four matches.

The Blazers and Warriors traded wins at 170 and 182 with Mitchell recording a pin in a blistering 14 seconds.

Hellus and Ferguson also picked up scored fall victories at 145 and 152 pounds, and Juma capped off the win with a forfeit win.

The win advanced the Blazers to the 13th-place match against Minatare, Neb.

Minatare knocked off Torrington, 24-12, while both Blazer wins were forfeit victories.

Torrington now turns its attention to the 3A East Regional Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22 in Buffalo.
